After 24 years of operation, the Rheinsberg Nuclear Power Plant was shut down and decommissioned in June 1990. Construction of the plant started in 1960, thus making it the oldest commercial nuclear power plant in the former German Democratic Republic.
Beyond its use for electricity generation, the plant also functioned as a research and training facility for other nuclear power plants.
Following an introductory presentation, visitors will be able to view several different areas of the plant. Among other plant areas, the visitor’s route includes the control room, i.e. the place where all operational processes were monitored.
